The Headquarter of the company is located in Hong Kong.As I come to the end of a term in my 12th year of teaching English as a foreign language I find that my classes and lessons have changed considerably. Not only have the students been through a lot, I have also become much more sensitive to the language I teach and to the people who study it.
My first experiences of teaching in China and Turkey came in my first year of university and have now culminated in my 12th year teaching in Korea. And while I have always taught English, I am now working with a team of native speakers to create lesson plans for my students. The language that I speak at home is not the same as the language that I use in the classroom, but I think the learner, and to some extent the teacher, becomes a translator.
The most striking change, to me, has been in my interactions with my students. I don’t think I have ever been so well-liked as a teacher as I am now. While I’m not deluded into thinking that I have inspired my students to read as much as I wish I had, I do know that I have inspired them to try new techniques, tried new ways of teaching and learned new ways of thinking about how to teach. We have not only become friends in the sense that I have become an assistant to some of my students, but also that I have developed my own ideas about teaching.
